Writing Samples

Writing samples are a great way for you to demonstrate your skills to potential employers

Your Simera profile is designed to give potential employers a comprehensive view into your skills and experience. It includes your work history, education, certificates, and other achievements, videos, and skills assessments specific to the type of job you're looking for.

Writing samples are an important part of your profile because it demonstrates both your writing ability and shows potential employers what it would be like to work with you.

How it Works

We send you a fictional scenario and instructions about the length, writing style, and other details. The scenario is something you'd likely encounter in your career, which makes it realistic. You provide a written response that we add to your profile.

How to Do Well

A few ways to nail your writing sample include:

  • Read it 2-3 times before replying to ensure you understand the scenario
  • Take your time. The goal is quality, not speed.
  • Proofread your reply before sending it to ensure it is typo-free, uses proper grammar, and is clearly written.

It should go without saying that you should write your response on your own, but please take this task seriously and do it yourself.

Example Writing Prompt

The following was used for an Administrative Assistant position.

Imagine that you are an Administrative Assistant at XYZ Corporation, a tech company based in San Francisco. Your supervisor has asked you to send an email to the CEO of ABC Enterprises, a pharmaceutical company based in New York, to schedule a meeting between the two companies. Your supervisor provided you with the following information:

  • XY Corporation is interested in partnering with ABC Enterprises to explore potential collaborations in the field of biotech.
  • The CEO of ABC Enterprises is Dr. Emily Johnson, M.D., Ph. D.
  • The meeting should take place in the next two weeks, and it should be held in New York City.
  • Your supervisor will be copied on the email for visibility.

Please draft an email to Dr. Emily Johnson to introduce yourself, explain the purpose of the meeting, and propose some possible dates and times for the meeting. Keep in mind that this email should be professional ad succinct, and should demonstrate your ability to communicate effectively in a business meeting.
